Introduction

Roulette – surely the most iconic of all the casino games!

What online or ‘bricks & mortar’ casino does not use it prominently in their banners & advertising? And yet, many online casinos seem to treat it as a second or even third-rate game L   This is a great shame as it is definitely one of the most exciting and emotional roller-coaster games in the world!

But why on earth do most online casinos have such high minimums?

I can understand why B&M casinos only have 50c/p or $/£/€1 chips due to available space around the tables & overheads to cover, but online is totally different – there really is no logical reason for the $/£/€1 chips most places have as minimum.   They are just driving potential customers away:  I can’t imagine anyone playing with only 2-3 chips per spin; my preferred pattern requires 9 chips absolute minimum, up to 20-30.  But am I going to play even at $9/£9 per spin?  I think not!

Unfortunately there are only a handful of reputable casinos who offer roulette with chips smaller than $/€/£1 – the best are listed here.   These days most online casinos offer both RNG (computer generated) roulette and Live real roulette via video-cam. More details below.

Below is a table of online Roulette firstly in terms of minimum chips size, and also whether you can spin the wheel with no bets on the table (important for certain wagering techniques), and if Roulette play is allowed in meeting WR for bonuses. I also list Roulette for USA players.

In the vast majority of casinos, Roulette only counts at 10% or less in bonus wagering, and there are always special rules about how you are allowed to bet on it.  My advice is, it’s not worth taking bonuses if you want to play Roulette. They can be good for slots play, but not for “the Devil’s Wheel”.

I also investigated what different variations of Roulette are available to give extra excitement to your spinning!  And I have added some words about playing strategies at the bottom of this page (scroll down to view).

Most of the softwares listed below have both single zero and double zero versions (for those players who like giving the house twice as much profit!), and some have French “La Partage” as well (half of even-money bets are refunded when ZERO hits)

Roulette Master – only at Casino Cruise!   Minimum for straight up bets (bets on a single number) is £0.01 / €0.01; the minimum rises for longer odds bets, as shown at the top of the right-hand column at the top of this page.   These widest limits on the internet mean this particular version of the game is suitable for all but the highest of high-rollers!

The game itself is incredibly easy to use and has a very nice, realistic spin.

Bet Voyager 0% Edge Roulette: This casino is totally unique in 2 major ways:

They have SHA-256 algorithm which 100% guarantees that the numbers produced are totally random.

They offer 100% RTP versions of ALL their in-house games – Roulette, Blackjack, Poker, all the usual casino card and dice games, and even their Slots!

How this works: If you make a profit playing the 0% edge games, you are charged 10% of that profit when you leave the casino. Any profit made from the regular games does NOT incur a charge.

Multiball Roulette: Chose to spin with 1, 2 or 3 balls on the wheel and with chips from just 1c!

(The balls don’t clash with each other as this is an electronic game – all three can land in the same number)

No Zero Roulette: Hmmm… something missing from this wheel? Oh yes – NO green sector!

This means the Theoretical Return to Player on this game is 100%!

Chips start from 5c – spin with ANY bet.

All accounts are in €uros only – and they use all the most common banking methods.

ZERO house edge!

Net Entertainment; A great no-download software with very good graphics! The wheel is nice and clear and spins quite slow & you can see all the numbers clearly. This is one of very few softwares where the direction of rotation changes with each spin – just like a real wheel! My only slight criticism is when the ball drops onto the wheel it stops a little too fast for my liking.

Most NetEnt casinos only offer European and French Roulette, a few have American too.

Table limits: 10c - €/$/£ 50 or  /$/£1 – 1500.

Some casinos only have the European €1 version.

IGT; Seems to be the leader in trying to please the Roulette lovers with exciting variants!

Big, clear graphics with very realistic spinning – the ball often ‘hopping’ about the wheel into & out of numbers before coming to rest.  They have normal European tables, plus special bonus variants:-

Double Bonus Spin Roulette: Gives you a chance to win up to 1,200x bet!  And its RTP is 98.06%.

The unique wheel has two zeros, but also a Yellow Bonus sector which is 1.5 x wider than the rest. Bet on it and hit – you get bet x12 and a further special spin with ALL your bets held in place. This is a double wheel, with 2 rings of numbers – hit the Yellow sector on both to win bet x 1,200!

Triple Bonus Spin Roulette: Pretty much the same as above, except this one has 3 zeros and 3 rings of numbers in the Bonus Spin. Hit all 3 Yellows for bet x12,000!  RTP even higher at 98.11%.

Three Wheel Roulette: Actually, there is only 1 wheel, but it has 2 extra rings of numbers which spin independently to give 3 winning numbers (can all be the same). It only has 1 zero and normal RTP.

These IGT roulettes are all available at TBA

Playtech; Very nice graphics – one of the best. The wheel spins at just the right speed so you can clearly see the numbers.  But once again the spins are always the same; round 3 times, drops, hops twice over 6-8 numbers & stops.

STOP! On some (all?) Playtech roulette, you can stop the animation by hitting stop – the ball then just instantly appears on its destination number.

Most games are €$£1 minimum chips, but this is less:

Video Roulette: Shows a video of a real wheel (recorded). Minimum bet 20c/p

Black Lotus European Roulette: Using Saucify software (used to be called BetOnSoft) their game has a nice big clear table which is very easy to use. My only sight criticism is the wheel spins just a little bit too fast for my liking. Otherwise it’s very nice!

Limits for each of their Single & Double Zero tables are: $1 to $250 or $10 to $1,000

Note: Roulette is ONLY available in the download version of the casino, not in Instant Play.

Welcome Bonus: 200% up to $500 max. e.g. Deposit $250 – play with $750!

The code for claiming this bonus can be found on the Promotions Page of their website.

Wagering Requirement: Bonus ONLY x45, Cashable. Max bet 30% of initial bonus received.

All Roulettes count at 50% in wagering, so WR would be Bonus x 90.

No “equal odds betting” e.g. betting on Red + Black at the same time, or otherwise covering significantly more than half the numbers on the wheel.

Please check the current T&Cs on their website, as these are subject to change at any time.

USA Live Dealer Casino; There are very few Live Dealer casinos for USA players, but we are happy to introduce 5Dimes Casino and SportsBook!

They offer 2 varieties of live-streamed games:

Traditional single-zero European Roulette: As available at many bricks and mortar casinos.

Enhanced pay-out American Double Zero Roulette: As the name suggests, the pay-outs are higher than standard – e.g. Single number = bet x36.08, Red or Black = Bet x 1.06. This game actually has a pay-out of 97.6%, which is HIGHER than the single-zero version at 97.2%!

Table limits: $1 to $100, $5 to $500 or $25 to $5,000.

Rival Gaming; Visually pretty horrible – you can not clearly see the numbers at all on the spinning wheel, because it spins too fast and they are all “blurry” anyway. Really the only clue you have to where the numbers are, is the green zero!  The ball movement is quite good though.

The table limit is incredibly low at only $50 (at least, in fun mode it is).

RTG (Real Time Gaming); The 3D table & wheel look OK, but it has a very annoying spin that is way too fast and always follows the same pattern; the ball goes round 3 times, then drops down & nearly stops but  finally hops 2-3 numbers further before stopping.  There is also no vocal announcement of the number hit!

The roulette tables are sometimes listed under “Speciality Games” and not under Table games.

Roulette Strategies and Systems

Are there really strategies which will allow you to consistently win at Roulette?   Many players think there are, but in reality there simply is not; you cannot defy the laws of maths any more than you could defy gravity and jump over the moon!

One thing is for certain, if you are ever tempted to buy a “foolproof system” – don’t!   Just think about it for a moment; if YOU invented a winning system for Roulette would you:

a) Try to sell it to other players at $10-50 a time, or

b) Tour the world’s casino’s playing your system & become a millionaire?

Bit of a no-brainer really!

I don’t know about ALL the strategies out there, but I would imagine most are based on the laws of probability and involve betting on groups of numbers that have hit less than the average amount of times.

Let’s look at the simple logic behind this; imagine for a moment you are playing a roulette wheel with no zeros.  The chance of hitting Red or Black would be exactly 50/50.  The chance of Red hitting again after it has just hit is 1 in 2.  Hitting Red next spin is 1 in 4. Then 1 in 8, 1in 16, 1 in 32, etc…  The odds of Red hitting 7 times in a row is 1 in 64 = not a very high chance – so should you put your mortgage on Black?  NO!   Because the odds of hitting Red or Black on the next spin are still even at 50/50!

But this is what some players do, and it’s called the ‘martingale’ system – after a certain number of the same colour hitting, they bet on the other colour. If it does not hit, they double their bets until it does.  The obvious flaws with this are the fact that you can end up risking huge amounts to make a tiny profit, you may reach the max bet for the table before you win and/or if the colour you want still does not hit you lose a small fortune.

In one of my early trips to a real casino, playing roulette & recording the result of every spin (as many players do) I once saw Red hit TWENTY-ONE times in a row!  I can’t imagine how much could have been lost martingaling on that! L

In essence, every single bet you make at Roulette is exposed to the HA (fixed at 2.7027% for single zero, European roulette).

It doesn’t matter where, when or how you place the chips – each spin is a totally independent event and just like gravity, death or taxes, the House Edge is always there – you simply can not avoid it.

System or no system, the only way to win at Roulette is get a lucky streak and then walk away while you are ahead.

Good luck!
